Roughly 80 percent of United States citizens live in urban areas. There is a growing movement to include green spaces and nature in urban design for the benefit of the environment and the health and well-being of the people. Protecting and conserving pockets of nature that provide more urban dwellers with access to nature is much easier to do on the expanding edges of the urban growth.
However, of equal importance is the movement to convert and restore green spaces within older parts of cities, especially within populations of socioeconomic disadvantage. NALT is excited to work with partners interested in this expanding field.
