Longcliff Preserve Pollinator Meadow Project Officially Underway

On Friday, March 27, 2026, the Longcliff Preserve pollinator meadow project officially kicked off.

The three-and-a-half-acre site, centrally located within Longcliff Preserve, was initially cleared in fall 2025 for use as a meadow. Recognizing an opportunity to create additional conservation value, the developer of the Villages at Longcliff, in partnership with the North American Land Trust (NALT), envisioned the area as a native pollinator meadow—designed to support wildflowers and the diverse insect species that depend on them.

The installation of the Pollinator Meadow will enrich the Longcliff Preserve by its sheer biodiversity in its species mix, but it will also enhance the Preserve by adding a new habitat to the site, enhancing the types and structure of the habitats found on-site.

The kickoff meeting brought together key project partners, including Emily Sampson of Patchwork Meadows, Landon Bergen of Water Logic, project designer Matt Sprouse of Sitework Studios, in addition to NALT and Longcliff members. The team conducted a site walk to assess current conditions and establish a coordinated plan for implementation of this important natural amenity.

NALT anticipates that site work will be completed by early fall. At that time, volunteers will be invited to participate in a community planting effort, helping to establish the meadow and bring this vision to life.

Once complete, the pollinator meadow will serve as a central ecological feature of Longcliff Preserve—providing critical habitat, enhancing biodiversity, and offering an engaging natural space for residents and visitors alike.
