PARTNERSHIPS

Our Partners Make The Difference

Our partnerships enable us to enact conservation with wider reach, with more diverse communities, and at a larger scale than we could have ever imagined. Thanks to our partnerships, we have been able to collaborate on land acquisition and protection projects, initiate widespread habitat improvement and restoration, and forge relationships that increase education, outreach, and connectivity within our communities.

American Battlefield Trust (ABT)

As the nation’s leading heritage land preservation organization, ABT preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters.  NALT partners with ABT to preserve important battlefield properties, both via acquisition and conservation easements.

Brinton Run Preserve

Balsam Mountain Trust (BMT)

BMT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, whose initial role when formed in 2000 was to inventory and manage the Preserve’s land; conduct conservation education programing for Balsam Mountain Preserve members and the general public; be a consulting resource for homeowners; and provide regional environmental leadership.  Since those early days, BMT has expanded its reach beyond the boundaries of the Preserve to become a regional leader in conservation education. NALT holds a conservation easement of the Balsam Mountain Preserve property in North Carolina and works BMT to provide stewardship and education at Balsam Mountain Preserve.

The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund (BBHF)

The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund is a nonprofit dedicated to establishing high quality pollinator habitat to ensure pollinator populations thrive. We work with landowners, conservationists, scientists and beekeepers to build healthy and sustainable pollinator habitat with maximum benefits. The BBHF Seed A Legacy program partnership funded seeds for pollinator habitat for 25 acres at Brinton Run Preserve. NALT has expanded the reach of the program to Pennsylvania and is currently exploring other opportunities for potential pollinator habitat sites.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s mission is connecting people through plants to improve communities. Their goal is to extend beyond traditional boundaries to have a positive impact and to enrich lives. The Garden is growing fresh produce for the hungry; actively participating in urban greening and water management initiatives; contributing to economic development and work-force training; and educating diverse youth and adult audiences about critical issues related to the interdependence of plants and people.  Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is the recipient of a gift from a local family of a 79-acre estate in Hanover County. The property includes a significant azalea collection as well as resources to ensure the preservation of the land for generations to come. Over the past 30 years, the family has developed an extraordinary collection of more than 1,600 varieties of azaleas and a significant collection of rhododendrons. They also introduced numerous trees, as well as protecting and preserving native specimen trees. In December 2012, the family secured a conservation easement on the land through the North American Land Trust to help ensure the property would maintain a rural character in perpetuity.

Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania (LNPA)

NALT signed on to the Treaty of Friendship with the LNPA in 2022, a non-binding treaty which states that those who sign acknowledge the Lenape as the indigenous caretakers of these lands and agree to support the Lenape Tribe in their own unique way. NALT and LNPA performed a Land Acknowledgement at Brinton Run Preserve and plan to involve LNPA in a Lenape Garden at Brinton Run Preserve.

Southern Highlands Reserve

Southern Highlands Reserve is dedicated to sustaining the natural ecosystems of the Blue Ridge Mountains through the preservation, cultivation and display of plants native to the region and by advocating for their value through education, restoration and research. Located in Western North Carolina at an elevation of 4,500 feet, the varied topography and forest types found on their 120 acres (under Conservation Easement with NALT) allow them to emulate many of the plant communities found in high-elevation forests of the Southern Appalachians. Southern Highlands Reserve has been aptly described by some as “the largest and most diverse collection of native Southern Appalachian plants and their cultivars.”
